So I’m back after a busy week of kids, school and life! Here where I live Spring has sprung. The yellow pollen from the pine trees is beginning to coat everything and my scratchy, itchy throat and eyes tell me that everything else has also begun it’s new season. Aside from the allergy issue I love spring! There is much joy in seeing your hard work in the garden and landscapes bloom and thrive. The changing seasons which come year after year are such a testament to the constancy of God! Continue reading

What is the Gospel of Peace & Grace?
I’d like to take some time and share what I believe the Gospel of Peace & Grace is. What did Jesus really do at the cross? Did He accomplish what He said He was going to do? If “It is Finished”, as in done, over, is God still angry at us? If God isn’t angry at us, does that mean there is no law anymore? If there is no law, then there shouldn’t be any sin, right? A 16-Step Religious Guide To Sabotaging Your Life ~ by Jim Palmer
I read this tonight on FaceBook and thought I would repost it, since I like the way Jim Palmer succinctly stated how religion screws up people’s lives. I can relate to every one of these, but am glad that I don’t live under any of them any more, thanks to God’s grace and peace to All mankind.
Enjoy! Alexa
A 16-Step Religious Guide To Sabotaging Your Life:
1. Begin with the premise that there is something hopelessly and incurably wrong with you.
2. Believe that your humanity is your problem, an obstacle to overcome, and an evil to repress or eradicate.
3. Pin your hopes on the afterlife, and don’t get too attached to the herelife. Continue reading
Hell ~ Real or Imagined?
I just finished reading a book by Jon Sweeney called “Inventing Hell”. It’s a great book on the history of how the modern idea of hell was started. I like that he states the Scriptures (Torah) in the Bible are the history of the Jewish people, not all people. It’s important to remember that people then were just like people today – nothing is new and they weren’t somehow different from us.
For centuries before and after Jesus, hell has been this imagined place of justice. For the pagans – which is everyone not a Hebrew (Jew) – hell grew out of their mythologies (which I think came from their ancestors – Noah’s kids and grandkids – living for several centuries, outliving their grandkids!). To me, hell is a very human concept – not God-like in any way. It also negates what Jesus said He would do -and did- for All humans: take their judgement, make peace with God, redeem them and make a place for them at the right hand of God. If hell was so important and true, why didn’t God tell Adam and Eve or anyone else about it? For Jews, after death, their bodies and souls just went to Sheol, the grave. To them they were just there, waiting for the prophecies of resurrection to be fulfilled. There was no place of torment, torture, or brimstone and fire. Continue reading
Welcome to my new, and first, blog!
Who am I?
That’s a pretty loaded question, but I mean it more in a let’s get to know each other way. I’ve been keeping a private journal since I was around eleven or so, back when computers were huge cumbersome mysterious things that the adults used. So I’ve always written on paper. Privately. I’m a little nervous about posting my thoughts out in the wide world for anyone to read, but am willing to brave it with the hope that even just one thing I say might be helpful or useful to you. I have a wonderful devoted husband of twenty-one years, who takes fabulous care of me and our four fantastic kids. He diligently works so I can stay home with our kids, home educating them and providing a nourishing atmosphere for them to explore who God made them to be. He has also been encouraging me for awhile to try my hand at blogging, so here I am.
My intention is to share my thoughts and findings on various topics. Like relationships, raising kids, personal growth, religion, books I enjoy, money, maybe even some political views. I will strive to be thoughtful, considerate and encouraging in my writings, since we all need that. I’m sure there will be times when you disagree with me – expect to! – but maybe what I say will cause you to ask questions, think or research for yourself, and expand your point of view. I believe that we all have the Divine in us, that we’re perfect beings, here to enjoy what life/God has to offer. There is no angry god, only love through grace and peace given freely because of God’s sacrifice for all. See, you may already be disagreeing with me! That’s okay! Hopefully you’ll keep checking back here and reading my crazy writings. 🙂
Thanks for your time so far! On my end of it, it’s taken me roughly an hour to just write this, what with three of my kids intermittently sitting down beside me to show me something on Pinterest or talk about what’s on their mind. Life! It’s a journey made of moments, right?!
